Occupational integrity: Designing congruence in your daily life

with Christie Diamond

Saturday, June 20 Limited to 36 participants
90 minutes: 10:30 am–Noon
Repeats: 3:00–4:30 pm

What if asking the question “How do I balance my life?” perpetuates the assumption that there is a correct configuration of time, roles, relationships, activities and projects that lead to balance and well-being. A configuration that steers you to either accomplish superhuman feats or to feel exhausted and discouraged.

Instead, what if you asked, “What do I really value?” and “How do my occupational choices reflect those values?”

How would you orchestrate your life to honor these values?

congruence — 1) rapport within oneself, or internal and external consistency, perceived by others as sincerity or certainty. 2) the balance between self, other and context (Virginia Satir)

For more information, see David Whyte (2009). The Three Marriages: Reimagining work, self and relationship.

In a World Café setting, you’ll work with a framework for occupational well-being that includes understanding key needs — accomplishment, affirmation, agency, coherence, companionship, pleasure, renewal. And you’ll explore aligning your personal values, strengths and gifts 24/7.

You may find yourself more successful at both work and play — with more energy for yourself, your family and your community.

Your workshop takeaways

  • Explore to what extent your work is aligned with personal values, and the implications for satisfaction, contentment, well-being, and meaningful contributions at your work, home and in community.
  • A framework for occupational well-being that includes key occupational needs
